Anne Sijmonsbergen is Ibiza’s only organic tomato farmer. She knows the island intimately, and her writing brims with enthusiasm and knowledge.
Anne is a trained cook, food writer and proprietor of Can Riero, which supplies organic produce to top restaurants and private chefs who are leading Ibiza’s burgeoning sustainable food movement. She’s trained at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, Massachusetts and writes beautifully about the relationship between food, place and culture. Since taking over Can Riero 10 years ago, the farm has gone from near fallow to producing dozens of varieties of fruits and vegetables, including over 40 types of heirloom tomatoes. Anne has dedicated herself to studying Ibiza’s food culture, meeting cheese-makers, bakers, bee-keepers, fisherman, herders and fellow farmers.
Her book, Eivissa: The Ibiza Cookbook, will be published by HarperCollins in June 2016.
