Thriving entrepreneur and much-loved TV personality, Peter Jones dreamt of becoming a successful businessman when he was just seven, confident that one day he would become just this.
Today, he has interests in a broad range of companies in a variety of markets, including Levi Roots, Red Letter Days, Tiny Box, Wonderland Magazine and Jessops, which collectively generate sales of more than £250 million and employ more than 1,000 people. Having personally invested in more than 40 businesses spanning publishing, new media, television, entertainment, food products, the environment and product design, Peter has always been passionate about nurturing and developing emerging entrepreneurs, a passion that eventually led to him becoming one of the most loved ‘dragons’ on Dragons’ Den.
A founding dragon who has featured on the programme for thirteen series, Peter was an instant hit on the show and became one of the most recognised and loved dragons, which led to stints on a number of other popular TV shows, such as Top Gear, The Magicians, James Cordon’s World Cup Live, A Question of Sport and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. An avid philanthropist, Peter has also featured on and raised substantial amounts for Sport Relief, Comic Relief and Children In Need, the latter through a charity-led Come Dine With Me Special with his fellow dragons.
Following the success of his early TV career, Peter developed a new concept for US TV network, ABC, with Simon Cowell called ‘American Inventor’. The reality programme was a big hit with audiences across America.
Outside of television, Peter’s passion for entrepreneurship led him to open the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy in 2009, an educational centre designed to help young people and young enterprise flourish in the UK. The entrepreneur hopes to roll the academy nationwide in the near future, offering thousands of courses to students all over Britain. He will also focus on the Peter Jones Foundation, established in 2005, which offers support to children through innovative education initiatives.
Looking forward, Peter is currently looking at a number of other TV projects that focus on shining the spotlight on business, and successful companies and the people behind them. He is aIso presently working on two new shows, one in the UK and one in the US, which are both in the early stages of production.
