Clint Dempsey named US Soccer's Male Athlete of the year

Clint Dempsey has a number of reasons to celebrate this week. First up on Friday 20th January he was named 2011 Male Athlete of the Year by governing body US Soccer. It is the second time Clint has won the prestigious award following his success in 2007.
"I'd like to thank the fans for voting me Athlete of the Year," said Dempsey talking to US Soccer. "It always feels good to be recognized for doing a good job at something you love to do. I'd like to thank my teammates and coaching staff for all their hard work, and hopefully we can have a better 2012."
Clint is also celebrating an incredible season for Fulham with his hat trick in the Cottagers home win over Newcastle (5-2) making him the first American to score 3 goals in an EPL game. Clint's tally for the season is now his best ever with 15 goals (9 in the league, 3 in the FA Cup and 3 in the Europa League).
