Newcastle Falcons sign Rory Lawson on two-year deal

James Grant rugby client RORY LAWSON has signed a two-year deal with Newcastle Falcons as the North East club's recruitment drive for next season continues.

The Scotland scrum-half is the Falcons’ third signing this week after international lock-forwards Carlo del Fava and Scott MacLeod penned deals with the club.

Rory, 31, joins from Gloucester and brings a wealth of experience to the table having being capped 30 times by Scotland.

The Dunfermline-born No.9 made his international debut against Australia in November 2006, and soon pulled on the navy blue jersey for his Six Nations bow against England at Twickenham in 2007.

Rory went on to play in the 2007 World Cup and has established himself as one of Europe’s top scrum-halves, captaining Scotland on five occasions, most recently at the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.

The former Edinburgh man has demonstrated his class at domestic level with Gloucester since he joined in 2006, helping the Cherry and Whites lift the LV= Cup and reach the Aviva Premiership play-offs in 2011.

Rory was also recently named in the Barbarians squad for their three-match summer tour against England, Ireland and Wales.

“I’m really looking forward to joining up with the Falcons this summer,” said Rory today.

“Newcastle’s form towards the end of the season was strong and there’s a lot we can build upon for next year to move the club forwards.

“Having met with Semore Kurdi it’s clear that the Falcons have significant resource and intent to build a successful club in the North East, and the appointment of Dean Richards can only enhance that.

“I want to thank the fans at Gloucester for their fantastic support over the last six seasons. I greatly enjoyed my time at Gloucester and look forward to turning out for the Barbarians at Kingsholm at the end of the month.”

James Grant rugby client SIMON SHAW has signed a one-year contract extension with French Top 14 side Toulon.

The 38-year-old lock forward joined this year's Amlin Challenge Cup finalists in November 2011 after 14 seasons at London Wasps.

Having initially signed a contract to the end of the current season, Simon has now put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him stay at Toulon until June 2013.

Toulon have finished the regular season in third place in the Top 14 and host Racing Metro in the playoffs on Saturday 26 May. The club are also through to the final of this year's Amlin Challenge Cup, where they will face Biarritz on Friday night at the Twickenham Stoop.

Jordan Rhodes' goals sends Huddersfield Town into play off final

Jordan Rhodes struck his 40th goal of the season as Huddersfield booked their place in the npower League One play-off final against Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United later this month as they recorded a 3-2 aggregate victory over MK Dons.

But Simon Grayson's side had to endure an agonising finale after former Leeds midfielder Alan Smith headed home in stoppage time to give MK Dons a 2-1 win on the night.

Rhodes, English football's leading goalscorer this season, fired Grayson's side into a 1-0 second leg lead in the 18th minute to give Huddersfield what proved to be an unassailable three-goal cushion.

Daniel Powell had given the Dons hope with a 39th-minute equaliser, but goals from Rhodes and Jack Hunt in the first leg last Saturday had set Town on their way and they just held on.

In their record-breaking eighth play-off appearance Town endured some anxious moments before securing a deserved second successive play-off final.

It could have gone horribly wrong for the home side though had Dons striker Charlie MacDonald converted two golden chances either side of the interval.

But Town weathered the storm to condemn Karl Robinson's men to more play-off misery after they slipped out at the same stage last season.

James Grant Sports has successfully brokered the move of 54-cap Italian rugby international Carlo Del Fava from Aironi to English Premiership side Newcastle Falcons.

Carlo, 30, has signed a two-year contract with the Falcons and will join the North East club in July for the start of the 2012/2013 season.

Born in South Africa and qualified for Italy through his Italian father, Carlo made his international bow against Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Italy’s 2004 Six Nations and has enjoyed a stellar international career.

He was a member of the Italy squad at both the 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups and has been a cornerstone of their pack in the Six Nations over the last few years.

Carlo’s international exploits combined with his illustrious playing career have underlined the Italian’s credentials as an experienced lock-forward. His former clubs include Natal Sharks, Rugby Parma, Bourgoin, Ulster, Viadana and more recently Aironi where he was exposed to regular Heineken Cup rugby.

Speaking to the Falcons official website, Carlo said: “Newcastle Falcons are a club that is on the up and I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing in England.

“There are some exciting times ahead for the club, further strengthened by the appointment of Dean Richards as director of rugby.

“I am delighted to have signed for a club with a bright future and my family and I look forward to making a new home in the North East.”

James Grant rugby client SHANE GERAGHTY will re-join London Irish this summer after signing a new two-year deal with the club.

The 25 year-old Exiles Academy graduate is currently plying his trade in the French Top 14 with Brive and recently played an instrumental role in his side’s Amlin Challenge Cup quarter final victory over Scarlets.

Shane, able to play at fly-half and centre, joined the London Irish Academy in July 2004 and went on to make 71 first team appearances, scoring 219 points before signing for Northampton Saints in 2009.

It was during his time at London Irish that Shane achieved his six England caps, scoring one try. He has also represented Ireland U18s as well as England at U18, U19, U21 and Saxons level.

London Irish director of rugby Brian Smith said: “I know Shane well and he is an exceptional player with a great deal of skill. He’s a game breaking ball player and he’s matured as a game controller. As we’re a team that wants to attack, Shane is a great player to partner Tomás O’Leary.

"His contribution during his first spell with London Irish was massive and I know he will contribute the same when he joins us again. We’re looking forward to welcoming him back into the fold.”

During his previous stint with the Exiles Shane received the London Irish "Young Player of the Season" award and the "Supporters' Club/St Clare's Young Player of the Season” award.

Dan Norton extends England Sevens deal

James Grant rugby client DAN NORTON has committed himself to England Sevens after signing a new deal with the national side.

The former Gloucester and Bristol wing has scored 33 tries so far in this season’s HSBC Sevens World Series – six more than his nearest global rivals, New Zealand’s Frank Halai and Samoa’s Paul Perez.

The 24 year-old from Bristol – arguably the fastest man on the world sevens circuit – has scored 81 tries in his international career with only Ben Gollings (220), Richard Haughton (106) and Rob Thirlby (101) ahead of him on England’s all-time list.

"I know there are several clubs who wanted to have him on board, so we’re delighted to have secured his services," said Head Coach Ben Ryan.

"Dan’s made excellent progress this season, worked hard all over the pitch and deserves the praise that’s come his way for the tries he’s scored. Every coach in the series would love to have him on their side.

"We’re in the second year of our full-time sevens programme now and the benefits are showing throughout the squad in terms of the individual development of each player and the collective understanding of how we want to play."

Dan said: "I’m really happy to be able to continue what I’m doing. I enjoy the set-up, working with all the players and coaches and the team spirit is great.

"Finishing this season on a high at Glasgow and Twickenham is the immediate goal. Beyond that the next ambitions are to win the HSBC Sevens World Series with England and the Sevens World Cup next summer.

"Going full-time with sevens this season has meant it’s been easy to concentrate on specific parts of my game, and the extra contact time we have has helped our understanding of the game and built a really strong team culture."

The charity supports families of sick children whilst they are being treated in hospital.

Every day many families arrive in hospital miles away from their home with a sick child not knowing where they will stay. The SCT supports hospitals by building and equipping new ‘Homes from Homes’ situated within minutes of the paediatric wards.

They work to improve the quality of life of the family whilst they endure this very stressful period. The accommodation is free and provides a comfortable, calm and relaxing environment where family members can retreat away from the intense clinical environment. This means they are available to support their sick child without worrying about where they might be sleeping and with a fully equipped kitchen they can cook meals if they wish for the rest of the family.

Tom will be getting involved first hand by visiting some of the London Houses and helping to ensure that The SCT can continue to provide this vital service.

"I'm really pleased to be getting involved with the SCT and helping support the cause," Tom explains.

"It's vital that when a child gets taken into hospital that the family is able to be nearby, and through the SCT we can help make this happen."

M&T Bank Stadium to host Premier League Soccer match

Baltimore, Md. – The Baltimore Ravens, Maryland Stadium Authority and Maryland Office of Sports Marketing today announced Tottenham Hotspur Football Club will play Liverpool Football Club in an all-Premier League soccer match on Saturday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. EST at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md. The match-up features two of the most popular teams in the Barclays Premier League, widely regarded as the most competitive and elite soccer league in the world.

“We are thrilled to bring the world’s best soccer back to Baltimore,” said Baltimore Ravens’ President Dick Cass. “This match features two of the most successful and popular teams in the Premier League and two teams who have not played in the region previously. I want to thank our partners at the Maryland Stadium Authority for all of their help making this a reality, and I want to send a special thanks to our neighbours, the Baltimore Orioles, for allowing the match to take place just hours before one of their home games. Their willingness to work with us is greatly appreciated. This match is another fantastic special event that we are bringing to our city and as these events continue to succeed we will continue to bring them to the fans of Baltimore.”

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley was enthusiastic with the news. “We’ve learned from hosting previous international matches here in Maryland that the regional fan base is fervent and diverse,” the Governor said. “Fans of all ages are excited with the opportunity to see some of the best soccer in the world played where they can enjoy it firsthand. The energy they bring to the stadium – particularly the youngsters – is electric, and I look forward to welcoming the match to Maryland.”

In March 2011, Under Armour announced a multi-year apparel agreement with Tottenham Hotspur, making the London club the first Barclays Premier League soccer team to sign with the global leader in sports performance apparel.

On announcing the fixture, Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy said, “Following last week’s announcement that we’ll be heading back to the U.S. for the second time in three years, as part of our pre-season training, we are delighted to have the opportunity to play in Baltimore, Maryland. With matches already confirmed against LA Galaxy and the New York Red Bulls, this third fixture is a great opportunity for two of the biggest names in English football to showcase the strength of the Premier League to a North American audience – something we know will appeal to our many fans that live across the USA.”

Liverpool Football Club, commonly referred to as the “Reds,” also compete in the Barclays Premier League. Liverpool has won eighteen League titles, the second most in English football, as well as seven Football Association Challenge Cups and a record eight Football League Cups. Liverpool has won more European titles than any other English club, with five European Cups, three UEFA Cups and three European Super Cups.

“It’s been a few years since we last travelled to North America to play, but everyone is very excited about our plans for this summer,” said Ian Ayre, Liverpool FC Managing Director. “The M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore is an amazing stadium and holds 71,000 fans. The prospect of playing a big game between two great Premier League clubs on American soil is one that I’m sure will excite lots of our fans because nothing beats watching the team live.”

“The Maryland Stadium Authority is delighted that our partners, the Ravens, are once again bringing an international sports event to our complex,” said Maryland Stadium Authority Chairman John Morton III. “We are committed to making our world class facilities available for more Marylanders and visitors to enjoy.”

Tickets for the July 28 match will go on sale Tuesday, April 3 at 10:00 a.m. EST. For more information on ticket sales, please call 410-261-RAVE (7283) or visit baltimoreravens.com/tickets

“Today’s announcement about the match to be played at M&T Bank Stadium this summer reinforces the growing profile Maryland sports enjoys on the national and international stage,” stated Terry Hasseltine, director of the Maryland Office of Sports Marketing. “We appreciate the hard work and commitment of all our partners who brought this event to fruition. We look forward to welcoming the fans, friends, management and teams of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool to Baltimore, Maryland.”

Josh Thompson and Chesterfield FC victorious at Wembley

Chesterfield enjoyed Wembley glory for the first time as they beat Swindon to lift the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The Spireites had a goal disallowed when Jack Lester slotted in, only for Simon Ford to be adjudged offside.

But the breakthrough came after the interval from an own goal by Swindon's Oliver Risser after Alex Mendy's ball across a crowded box.

After missing an open goal, Craig Westcarr made amends in injury time to seal victory for John Sheridan's men.

After the elation of winning League Two last season, Chesterfield fans have had little to cheer about this term, with their side rooted at the bottom of League One having won just seven times in 38 games. But the Spireites faithful were in fine voice at the full-time whistle at Wembley after they witnessed a confident, comprehensive display against League Two leaders Swindon.

Paolo di Canio - looking for his first piece of silverware as a manager - was without his captain Paul Caddis and the Robins looked weak without him in the heart of defence.

Chesterfield had the ball in the net early doors but the offside flag was waved when Lester stabbed home after Ford's effort had clouted the bar. But Swindon found their stride, loan man Lee Holmes looking a constant threat with his blistering pace on the left wing. His first chance was curled goalwards with his right foot but it took a double deflection off goalkeeper Tommy Lee, who later saved from Holmes' cross shot.

Chesterfield were dealt a massive blow when veteran striker Lester was forced off with a groin injury and struggled to get forward as Swindon continued to push for a goal. Their best chance came just before half-time when Paul Benson set up Alan Connell but his acrobatic volley went well wide.

The Spireites came out revitalised in the second half and made the breakthrough within 70 seconds. After some tricky work on the wing, Mendy's ball across goal caught Risser unaware and he knocked into his own net. The goal left Swindon rattled and Chesterfield went out to capitalise on their frailties. Mendy's overhead kick was tipped over, while a mistake by Alan McCormack let Westcarr run clear, but his weak effort went past the post.

The Robins searched tirelessly for an equaliser and almost found it but Alessandro Cibbocchi's bullet header was pushed over the bar by Lee.

But Westcarr finished the game off in injury time when he beat the offside trap, coolly slotting in to crown Chesterfield's deserved victory

Record breaking Rhodes keeps Huddersfield's promotion hopes alive

JORDAN RHODES has a new target to aim at after setting a post-war Huddersfield Town scoring record. The young Scotland international made it 35 for the season in eclipsing Iwan Roberts’s 1991-92 haul for the club.

He still has the opportunity to break Huddersfield Town’s all-time scoring record of 42 set in the 1931-32 season by Dave Mangnall,

There were eyebrows raised when he stepped up to take what proved the match-winning penalty against the league leaders but that was nothing to do with him wanting to break the club record, explained the 6ft 2in striker after his first goal of the campaign from the spot.

“I had not given the record a thought. It was strictly about the three points today,” said Rhodes. "Fortunately enough, we managed to grind out a 1-0 win – we haven’t had too many of them. I thought the defence was fantastic and it was a really good team effort. Tommy Miller is the penalty-taker and whenever he is on the field he will take them but, fortunately enough, it went in.”

Of his record number of goals, the League One player of the year continued: “Absolutely, the main aim is promotion and I would trade them all for promotion. We just have to take it a game at a time, starting with Carlisle. Any win is a good win and any goal is a good goal but it does bring Charlton that bit closer.”

Town manager Simon Grayson said: “It was important to produce that kind of performance. I thought it was a fantastic, positive atmopshere and the players responded to that. I asked the players to run themselves into the ground and they did that for me. There has been something missing over the course of the season and we are trying just to tweak a few things. Charlton are a good team, well organised, but we proved we are a match for anybody.”

James Grant rugby client Jonny May has been named today as the inaugural winner of the LV= Breakthrough Player award.

Jonny, 21, beat off stiff competition from five other nominees including current IRB World Young Player-of-the-Year George Ford to land the prize, which recognises young talent that has shone in this year's LV= Cup.

The award was voted for by the public via the LV= website, and as the winner Jonny will now receive a Tag Heuer watch plus £1,000 donated to a local grassroots club of his choice, plus of course the inaugural LV= Cup Breakthrough Player trophy.

Jonny said today: "I'm really pleased to have won the award especially as it's voted for by the supporters. I'm sure I owe a lot of Gloucester fans a huge vote of thanks!"

Jonny, who plays full-back and wing for Gloucester, celebrated his call-up to the England Saxons squad in January with a man-of-the-match performance at full-back for Gloucester against Toulouse in the Heineken Cup, scoring two memorable tries at Kingsholm.

Later that same month Jonny made his England Saxons debut off the bench against Scotland, making his first Saxons start a week later against Ireland, and January concluded with Jonny being named Aviva Premiership player-of-the-month.

Jordan Rhodes has been named League One Player-of-the-Year after 33 goals so far this season for Huddersfield Town FC.

The 22-year-old - who grabbed his 33rd goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Rochdale at Galpharm Stadium - topped the poll for Town at this week's Football League Awards.

Rhodes is now just one goal short of Iwan Roberts’ post-war record of 34 goals in a season, set as Town went to the 1991-92 play-offs.

Rhodes, who saw off Sheffield United's Ched Evans and Charlton's Johnnie Jackson to win the gong, said: "There were so many great candidates out there and probably more deserving of the award than me.

"I am very lucky and very honoured to be named League One's player of the year.

"Huddersfield is a great club full of really nice players, both on and off the field. They are a really great bunch and I am picking up this award on behalf of them. It is a fantastic team effort."

Gloucester captain and James Grant rugby client Luke Narraway has signed a two-year contract with Perpignan.

The 28-year-old - capped 7 times by England to date - will make the switch this summer after 10 seasons and more than 150 appearances for Gloucester.

Perpignan - known as USAP (Union Sportive des Arlequins Perpignanais) - are one of France's most famous rugby clubs and have won the French Championship seven times in their history, the most recent being in 2009.

Luke said: "It will be strange to leave because Gloucester has been my only club, but moving to Perpignan is going to be a tremendous experience both on and off the pitch.

"I've obviously still got unfinished business here in a Gloucester shirt, but would like to thank everyone who has helped me to get where I am today.

"I will miss the club. I'll miss Kingsholm and, of course, the amazing supporters. Gloucester's will always be the first result I look out for and I wish them every success in the future."

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath added: "Luke has signed for Perpignan and will be leaving us at the end of the season. He's been a fine player for Gloucester Rugby and I know has enjoyed the challenge of captaincy this season.

"He's been with us for a long time but it's the nature of the game that people move on to pastures new. I think he'll do well in France and will go with our best wishes."

Luke will join Perpignan in July in time for the start of the 2012/2013 season.

James Grant has previously secured contracts for five other clients in the Top 14 over the last 12 months.

Phil Vickery becomes ambassador for Prince’s Countryside Fund

Former England rugby captain Phil Vickery MBE was today announced as the first ambassador of the Prince's Countryside Fund, the brainchild of the Prince of Wales.

"Throwing his weight behind the country: an interview with Phil Vickery"

The Telegraph, 26 Feb 2012

The game of rugby and our countryside have many things in common. Mud and muscle, camaraderie and national pride to name a few. Then there is Phil Vickery.

Since retiring from the game in 2010, the former England captain who was a World Cup winner in 2003, can be found on the family farm in Gloucestershire. Four operations on his neck and back meant that, aged 35, Phil has had to call it a day. “I had a wonderful rugby career,” he says, “but it’s over and you lose a big part of your life.”

Born and bred on a West Country farm and a “proud Englishman”, Phil is today announced as the first ambassador to the Prince’s Countryside Fund, the brainchild of the Prince of Wales. He hopes to take some of the team-building morale he injected into the England side, and move into an altogether different field. The clear message from Phil is this: “Whether you live in the city, country or town, we can all do a little bit to support our countryside.”

Rural life has underpinned everything he has done. He grew up in Kilkhampton, near Bude in Cornwall, where his earliest memories were of standing in gaps in hedges to stop sheep escaping, digging up potatoes and riding on a bale sledge. The farmhouse kitchen, he recalls, was like “the office”. “Everyone came in from the fields and yard and met there – it was like the boardroom. Orders were given out, disasters reported. Then we would discuss how to fix them.”

His ambition in life was the family farm, only “rugby got in the way a bit”. In his softly-spoken West Country accent, Phil describes playing in a small rugby club in Bude with farmers, firemen and life guards. “There is a huge amount of camaraderie in rugby and it’s the same in the countryside,” he says. At 19, he moved to Gloucestershire and found a job on a farm before signing his first contract to play rugby for less than £4,000 a year. After the £25 a week he was getting at home, he thought he’d won the lottery.

Phil went on to play for London Wasps and was capped 73 times by England before injury forced him to hang up his boots. He moved to his own farm in Taynton last year, with his wife Kate and children, Megan, 6, and Harry, 3. But it is his role with The Prince’s Countryside Fund that he wants to tackle head on.

The fund was launched in 2010 with the aim of supporting rural communities and improving the sustainability of the British countryside through education and business support. Reconnecting the people of Britain with the countryside is paramount. Organisations are invited to apply for grants, available biannually, and the latest 15 recipients are announced here today.

A share of the latest £422,000 pot will go to, among others: the Pembrokeshire Beekeepers’ Association; the Peak District’s upland farmers; “Open Farm Weekends” in Northern Ireland; the Plunkett Foundation, which halts the closure of rural shops nationwide, and more. The fund is supported by household names such as Waitrose, Asda, McVities, Strutt & Parker, M&S, and Barbour in return for the right to display the Prince’s Countryside Fund logo in stores and on products.

All the winning projects have proved “a special contribution to safeguarding the countryside at either a national or more local level”, according to Tor Harris, director of the Prince’s Countryside Fund. “With the countryside under threat and often neglected, and with 5.5 million people relying on rural industries for employment, the work of the Prince’s Countryside Fund is a vital lifeline.” Pressures faced include the volatility of farming incomes, the demand for low food prices in supermarkets and the rising input costs squeezing farmers.

Educating children about farming, training young people and passing on skills are vital components of what the fund stands for. Some 60,000 new entrants into farming are needed over the next decade to ensure our countryside can provide the food we need. Encouraging young people to forge careers in rural areas is vital to the future of farming. But it is not easy. In upland farms, the average age of a decision-maker is 58. The average profit in 2008 was £6,000. But it’s important that we preserve this heritage. “The British countryside is the envy of the world,” as Phil points out, “we must make people who work in it feel valuable. Let’s help give people the opportunity,” he says, “start by teaching kids to grow vegetables, give them invaluable knowledge and pass it down through the generations. It’s about helping the industry show people that there is a future.”

Awareness of the link between food and farming is where we can all make a difference. Phil describes himself as “a cook, not a chef”, but proved he was no ordinary cook by winning Celebrity Masterchef in 2011 with a black pudding starter, roast lamb and proper pudding. His love of good food comes directly from his farm background: the food on the table was the product of all the hard work. “We produce some of the greatest food in the world here in the British Isles,” he says. Here’s where we can all help: on a special occasion, buy meat from a farmers’ market, or local pressed apple juice from the village deli and support small producers.

Phil’s final thought is to the protection of our countryside, and that we acknowledge those who safeguard it. “When you drive around the countryside and see how fantastic it looks, be aware of how much goes into that – all the workers that keep it looking so good. We should make sure we don’t lose those people and those wonderful skills.” It’s not about going back to the “good old days”, he adds, but about taking those values into the future.

The highlight of the 6 day trip was a one nil victory over the Oman National Team in front of an exuberant crowd of over 11,000.
During their week-long stay in Oman, Wigan also enjoyed the benefit of warm weather training and participated in several media and grass roots events, including an afternoon tea with the British Ambassador, several meet and greet sessions with the local RAF squadron, young players and local fans.

“We are delighted with the training camp and our experience in Oman. James Grant Sports and the Oman FA have done a great job and fully understood our requirements from a technical perspective,” said Wigan Manager, Roberto Martinez. “Our time there was a great opportunity for our players and staff to break from our usual routine and recharge our batteries for the remainder of the Premier League season. The Oman FA was a wonderful host and we were able to have some excellent training sessions and enjoyed a very competitive game with the national team. We are looking forward to returning in the years ahead as we build our relationship with Oman.”

Damian Willoughby, U.S. Managing Director for James Grant Sports, who organized this international friendly and also represents Ali Al Habsi said, “This further demonstrates our global reach and ability to broker ground breaking events that deliver real value for all parties.
Paul Hodgson to join Worcester Warriors

James Grant is pleased to announce that rugby client Paul Hodgson will join Worcester Warriors from London Irish this summer.

Paul, who is currently part of the Saxons EPS squad and has made nine Test appearances for England, will make the move to Sixways on a three-year deal for the start of the 2012/2013 season.

Known as ‘Dodge’ because of his sidestepping skills, Epsom-born Paul has topped over a century of Premiership appearances in his career and played over 200 games for London Irish.

The hugely talented scrum-half joined Irish from Bristol in 2004, having represented England at U18 and U21 level.

A quick, compact player, he represented England Sevens before winning his first full cap against Ireland during the 2008 Six Nations. Paul enjoyed further international recognition during England's summer series against Argentina in 2009 and started the first three games of the 2010 Six Nations.

The 29-year-old has also impressed for England Saxons on many occasions, helping guide them to triumph in the Churchill Cup at Sixways in 2011 and also featuring in recent games with Ireland Wolfhounds and Scotland A.

Head Coach Richard Hill said: “Paul is a hugely competitive, positive and enthusiastic player who has a fantastic attitude; he has huge drive to win at absolutely everything he does.

“He is a scrum half who is lively around the park, knows how to control a game and puts his body on the line for the good of the team. He is a great character to have on the field and I know his enthusiasm will be infectious and will impact on those around him.

“We are determined to only bring people to the Warriors who will give 100 percent in every game they play and will improve our squad. Paul will do just that and has the work ethic and winning mentality to push the club forward.”

Paul commented: “Worcester Warriors are an ambitious club with a strong coaching set-up and really developing playing squad. After meeting with Richard Hill I truly understood the aspirations of the club and I’m looking forward to playing my part in that development.

“I have thoroughly my eight years at London Irish and I have been lucky enough to play with some fantastic team-mates and under a great management team. The support from the fans has always been amazing.

"I am excited by the rest of the season at London Irish and totally focused on helping the team move forward in the Aviva Premiership and make the end of season play-offs.”

James Grant rugby client Jonny May has been named Aviva Premiership Player of the Month for January and received his award at Kingsholm this week.

Jonny got the nod after a panel of notable rugby luminaries debated the merits of several players who caught the eye last month.

However, the 21 year old was the overwhelming choice after a recent run of form which have seen him, amongst other things, score a brace of tries against London Wasps and an eye catching effort against Toulouse in the Heineken Cup.

The award caps a memorable week for the Swindon-born product of the Gloucester Rugby who made his first start for the England Saxons last Friday.

He was also named in a shortlist of six for the LV= Breakthrough Award earlier this week.

"It's a really great award to win and I'm very honoured and grateful. However, it's a reflection of well the team has been going recently, the way we're trying to play the game and the hard work that everyone puts in.

"With everything that's happened this week, it does all feel a bit surreal but it's a big bonus.

"The awards come if you're concentrating properly on your rugby. I'm really happy to have won this, but I'll just keep on working hard and won't let it affect anything."

Nick Kennedy to take up contract in France's Top 14 next season

James Grant Sports is pleased to confirm that rugby client Nick Kennedy will leave London Irish this summer to play in France's Top 14 next season.

The 29-year-old, who has made more than 200 appearances for London Irish since his debut in 2002, has agreed terms on a three-year deal with French side Toulon.

London Irish Head Coach, Toby Booth said: “We would like to sincerely thank Nick for his contribution to London Irish over the last ten years. He has been a great servant of the Club and an important part of its success. We are sad to see him leave but can see that he has an opportunity to progress his career with Toulon. We wish him the very best of luck.”

Nick said: “London Irish has been a fantastic home for me for the last ten years and it’s with some sadness that I’ll leave Sunbury at the end of this season. I’ve only ever played for one professional club in England, and so when the time came to look at my options to be honest I couldn’t see myself playing at another club in the Premiership.

“I'm looking forward to France, but for now my focus is on the rest of this season with London Irish. We’ve battled hard to be in the top six of the Premiership and our focus now is to push on and make the play-offs and finish the year on a high.”

Shane Williams set to bow out for Barbarians against Wales in June

Shane Williams - Wales' most capped winger and a client of James Grant Sports - is in line to bow out of all rugby this summer by playing for the Barbarians against Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in June.

The Ospreys announced last week that the 34-year-old - who is working for BBC Sport and S4C as a pundit during the current RBS Six Nations Championship (pictured) - would finish playing for the region in May and take up an ambassadorial role.

James Grant can now confirm that Shane has accepted an invitation to play for the Barbarians on their summer tour, which features matches against England at Twickenham (27 May) and Ireland at Kingsholm (29 May), before Wales in Cardiff on Saturday 2 June.

Shane said: "I've always said that I would never stay on too long and play rugby just for the sake of it. Finishing playing for Wales after the World Cup felt like the right decision, and now I've had the chance to reflect on where I'm at, it feels right that this season will be my last.

"I'm delighted to have sorted out the ambassadorial role with the Ospreys which means I can continue to help the region I love.

"I've played for the Barbarians once before and when I was offered the chance to play this summer I had no hesitation in accepting the honour. The Barbarians is a wonderful institution and sums up everything that is good about the game of rugby.

"To have the chance to finish by playing against Wales in Cardiff is an incredible opportunity and will bring my career full circle."

James Grant is delighted to announce that Wales' record try-scoring wing Shane Williams and England U20 centre Elliot Daly (pictured) have joined our elite rugby management division.

Shane, 34, is a legend of the world game and bowed out of international rugby earlier this month with a try on his final appearance for Wales, against Australia in Cardiff.

Shane is his country's record try-scorer of all-time, and his career tally of 60 in 91 Tests leaves him behind only Australia great David Campese (64 from 101 Tests) and Japan's Daisuke Ohata (69 in 58 Tests) in the world standings.

Meanwhile, England U20 centre Elliot Daly is widely regarded as one of English rugby's most promising young talents and is beginning to feature regularly for London Wasps 1st XV.

Exceptionally quick and with a prodigious goal-kicking range, Elliot was a key member of the England U20s side that reached the final of the Junior World Championships in 2011.
